6 Module Six

6.0 Collab-U Module 8 & 9

    In this module we covered more tools to utilize in the case of conflict within a team. Where active listening and Assertion messages were critical for the compromising aspect of conflict management. We learned that through Active Listening, by summarizing the other parties viewpoints helps to aid in diffusing tension. By doing so, it allows you to step forward in the compromising process and share your own personal viewpoints, and strategy forward. For the Assertion messages portion, we  learned that there were 3 components or features encompassed within an assertion message. These include: an objective description of the problem or behaviour, your own personal emotional response, and an explanation of the the problem/behaviors impact on you or the group. By addressing all these components, it ensures that the other party is heard, your own personal feeling are heard, and that the group is taken into account moving forward and strategizing a way around the issue.

6.0 Brainstorming Capstone Ideas

    This week, our team meeting was designated towards sharing our own personal capstone ideas with the group. It was a good exercise in being able to share our ideas freely and provide feedback and optional planning forward. We also chose to go a little more in-depth with one of the projects mentioned and break it down into sub-components, a process in which I can sometimes skip, and consequently get overwhelmed when starting a project. The project we chose was suggested by Ryan, and was an inventory based app.

6.2 Other Activities and Assignments

    We also were tasked this week to create a shell website that will act as our portfolio site throughout the CS Online program. along with this we also developed a resume and cover letter that would be turned into prospective internship opportunities. This was a good exercise and first step in the job searching journey.
